Who is standing at your gate right now?
Most homes in the UAE still answer the door the same way. A bell rings, someone walks to the gate, and the door opens before anyone knows who is behind it. In a villa in Ajman or a tower apartment in Sharjah, that is a small risk repeated several times a day: delivery riders, maintenance staff, sales callers, and occasionally someone you have never seen before.
A video intercom removes the guesswork. You see the visitor's face on a screen, talk to them from where you are standing, and open the door only if you decide to. If you are at work, at the mosque, or out of the country, you do exactly the same thing from your phone.
The Hikvision DS-KIS602 IP Video Intercom Kit is the system Secure Eye Technologies installs most often in UAE villas and apartments. Here is what it actually does.
What is inside the DS-KIS602 kit
Three boxes, one working system. Nothing else to buy except cable, and a lock or gate motor if you want the entrance to open electrically.
1. The 7-inch touchscreen indoor monitor
A wall-mounted colour touchscreen (16.93 cm, about 7 inches) that lives inside the house, usually in the entrance hall, the kitchen, or the majlis. When someone presses the button outside, the screen wakes up with live video of the visitor. Tap to talk. Tap again to unlock. No handset on a cord, no codes to memorise, and no app needed while you are at home.
2. The 2MP outdoor door station
The unit at your gate or front door. It carries a 2-megapixel camera with a wide field of view, infrared night vision, a call button, a microphone and a speaker, all inside a housing rated IP65 against dust and water. It mounts on the wall surface or flush into it, finished in black.
3. The 4-port standard PoE switch
The quiet part that keeps the installation clean. Power over Ethernet sends electricity and video down the same network cable, so the door station needs one Cat6 run instead of a separate power supply out at the gate. Four PoE ports means the system has room to grow: a second monitor upstairs, a second door station at the back gate, or a camera.
Every feature, and what it changes for you
- Live HD video of the visitor. 2MP with a wide angle, so you see the person and what they are carrying, not just a nose pressed against the lens.
- Two-way audio. A real conversation from the indoor monitor or from your phone. Tell the courier to leave the parcel with the guard without opening anything.
- Remote door unlock. The door station drives an electric strike, a magnetic lock, or a gate motor. One tap on the screen or in the app releases it, which is how you let the cleaner or a family member in when nobody is home.
- Infrared night vision. The camera keeps working after dark. Most unwanted visits happen at night, and a door camera that goes blind at 8pm is not security.
- IP65 weatherproof housing. Sealed against dust and water. In the UAE the dust matters more than the rain: fine sand from a shamal kills unsealed electronics faster than water ever will.
- PoE power and data on one cable. Fewer wires, fewer points of failure, and no 220V socket needed at the gate.
- Mobile app access. Link the system to the Hik-Connect app and your door calls your phone. Answer from your office in Dubai, from Abu Dhabi, or from abroad. Same video, same audio, same unlock button.
- Call history. The monitor keeps a record of calls, so you know someone came while you were out. With storage configured it can also hold snapshots of the visitor.
- Extra indoor monitors. Add a screen on the first floor, in the master bedroom, or in the staff area. They all ring, and any of them can answer.
- Works alongside your CCTV. Hikvision IP cameras can be viewed on the same indoor screen, so you can check the driveway and the back gate without a separate monitor or a laptop.
- Alarm inputs. The indoor monitor accepts wired detectors such as door contacts, PIR motion sensors, smoke detectors and panic buttons. That turns a doorbell into the beginning of a small alarm system.
- Card entry option. Door station models with a built-in card reader let family or staff tap a card instead of calling up. We confirm the exact model against your requirement at survey.
Built for the way UAE buildings actually behave
Summer here runs past 45°C and a gate wall takes direct sun for most of the day. Dust storms arrive with little warning. Coastal humidity in Dubai Marina, Al Khan and Ajman Corniche pushes salt into every joint. That is why we specify IP65-rated outdoor units, use outdoor-grade cable on exposed runs, seal every gland, and fit surge protection where the cable enters the building.
It is also why the cheapest battery WiFi doorbell rarely survives a second summer here. A wired PoE intercom has no battery to swell in the heat, no dropout when the router reboots, and no monthly cloud subscription.
Where the DS-KIS602 fits
- Villas. Door station at the gate, monitor in the hall, a second monitor upstairs. Let guests in without walking out into the heat.
- Apartments. Door station at the flat entrance, monitor inside. It also works as a second layer behind a building's existing lobby intercom.
- Small offices and clinics. Reception sees and screens every visitor before releasing the door.
- Warehouses and yards. One station at the vehicle gate, monitor in the supervisor's office.
- Staff accommodation. Controlled entry with a record of who called and when.
Retrofit or new build: both work, differently
In a new build we run Cat6 from the gate to the monitor position before the plaster goes on. Clean, invisible, and the cheapest way to do it.
In an occupied villa or a finished apartment there is usually an existing bell wire or an old 2-wire intercom cable. Depending on distance and condition we either pull new Cat6 through the existing conduit, run discreet trunking, or propose a different intercom family that works over the old 2-wire pair. The survey decides. We do not quote an intercom without seeing the cable route first.
What a Secure Eye installation includes
- Free site survey. We look at the gate, the wall, the cable route, the lock and the power before quoting anything.
- Design and quotation. Fixed price, itemised, with cable and accessories listed rather than buried.
- Cabling and mounting. Cat6 pulled, glands sealed, door station set at a height that works for an adult and for a wheelchair user.
- Lock and gate integration. Electric strike, magnetic lock or sliding gate motor wired to the release relay, with an exit button inside.
- Configuration. Network, indoor and outdoor pairing, call routing, and any additional monitors.
- App setup on your phones. Every family member who needs access, tested before we leave site.
- Handover and training. Ten minutes with whoever will use it daily, in English or Arabic.

Installed anywhere in the UAE

One kit is not the only answer
The DS-KIS602 is a strong default for a single home with one entrance. It is not the right answer everywhere, and we supply and install the alternatives as well:
- Multi-tenant IP door stations. One panel at the building entrance that calls any of dozens of apartments, each with its own indoor monitor.
- Two-wire intercom systems. For older buildings where pulling new network cable is impractical. Video and audio over the existing pair.
- Modular door stations. Camera, keypad, card reader and name directory built up in sections for larger entrances.
- WiFi video doorbells. The low-cost option for a rented apartment, or anywhere cabling is not permitted.
- Intercom with access control. Card, PIN, fingerprint or face recognition on the same door, tied into staff attendance if you need it. See our fingerprint access control work.
- Gate and barrier automation. Swing gate, sliding gate or boom barrier driven from the same intercom call.
- Intercom and CCTV as one system. The intercom becomes another camera on your recorder. It pairs naturally with home CCTV systems and full CCTV installation.

Keeping it working
An intercom lives outdoors and gets touched by hand several times a day. Twice a year the lens wants cleaning, the seals want checking, the lock relay wants testing and the firmware wants updating. Our maintenance and AMC contracts cover intercoms alongside cameras, so one visit handles the whole system.
Common questions
What is included in the Hikvision DS-KIS602 kit?
Three units: a 7-inch touchscreen indoor monitor, a 2MP outdoor door station with night vision and an IP65 weatherproof housing, and a 4-port standard PoE switch. Cable, the electric lock or gate motor, and mounting accessories are specified separately at survey because they depend on your door.
Can I answer my door from my phone while I am abroad?
Yes. The system links to the Hik-Connect mobile app, so a call from the door station reaches your phone anywhere with internet. You see the visitor, speak to them, and can release the lock. It needs a stable broadband connection at the property.
Does the intercom work at night?
Yes. The outdoor door station has infrared night vision, so you still get a usable picture of the visitor after dark without a floodlight.
Can I add a second monitor or a second gate later?
Yes. The kit ships with a 4-port PoE switch, so there is capacity for additional indoor monitors, a second door station at a back gate, or a camera. We plan the cable route for that at the first installation if you tell us in advance.
Do you install video intercoms outside Ajman?
We install across all seven emirates including Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah and Umm Al Quwain, plus Al Ain. Ajman and the Northern Emirates get the fastest response because our base is there.
My building has old 2-wire intercom cabling. Do I need to rewire?
Not necessarily. Where new Cat6 cannot be pulled, we install a 2-wire intercom family that carries video and audio over the existing pair, or we reuse the old conduit. The site survey decides which is cheaper for your building.
How long does installation take?
A single villa with a straightforward cable route is usually one working day, including configuration, app setup and handover. Multi-apartment buildings are phased so residents are never left without a working door.
