Cameras fail quietly. A disk fills or dies, a channel drops, dust blinds a lens, the clock drifts — and the screen in the corner keeps showing something, so nobody looks closely. Then an incident happens, the footage is needed, and the recording stopped months ago. An AMC — annual maintenance contract — exists to make sure that morning never happens to you.

What a proper CCTV AMC includes

Not all AMCs are equal; some are just a discount coupon for callouts. A real one includes:

  • Scheduled preventive visits (typically 2–4 per year): every camera checked live and on playback, lenses and housings cleaned — in UAE dust, cleaning alone measurably restores image quality.
  • Recording verification: retention days confirmed against what you need (30–31 days where SIRA or police rules apply), overwrite policy correct, no silent gaps in playback.
  • Hard disk health checks — catching a failing disk before it takes your archive with it.
  • Time synchronisation — wrong timestamps make footage worthless as evidence.
  • Connector, cable and power inspection — reseating and resealing the outdoor points that UAE heat loosens; this is where most future faults are prevented.
  • Firmware updates and password hygiene — old firmware with default passwords is how camera systems end up in botnets.
  • Priority breakdown response — a defined response time when something fails between visits, ahead of non-contract customers.
  • A written report per visit — what was checked, what was fixed, what is aging and should be budgeted for.

What it costs in the UAE

Typical market ranges — exact pricing depends on camera count, site spread and response-time commitments:

  • Villas and homes (4–8 cameras): roughly AED 600–1,500 per year.
  • Shops and offices (4–12 cameras): roughly AED 1,000–3,000 per year.
  • Restaurants, supermarkets, multi-floor premises: roughly AED 2,000–5,000 per year.
  • Warehouses and multi-site businesses: quoted per site count and SLA — usually still less than one emergency callout per quarter would cost.

Parts (a replacement disk, a dead camera) are usually charged separately at agreed rates — ask for that rate card upfront; it is where vague AMCs hide their margins.

AMC or pay-per-callout: honest math

  • A single emergency visit typically runs AED 150–400 before any parts. Two or three callouts a year and the AMC already paid for itself — with prevention included, which callouts never are.
  • For regulated businesses the calculation is simpler: a dead camera found by an inspector is a violation with a fine; found by your AMC technician, it is a line in a report and a swap.
  • The honest exception: a small apartment setup, 2–3 cameras, low stakes — pay-per-callout is defensible. We will tell you so rather than sell you a contract you do not need.

How many maintenance visits per year do I need?

Homes: two visits (before and after summer — heat is the killer season). Businesses: quarterly is standard; dusty or coastal sites sometimes justify more.

Can I take an AMC for a system you did not install?

Yes. First visit audits the whole system — camera health, disk age, retention, security — and that audit becomes the baseline for the contract.

Does the AMC include replacement parts?

Labour and diagnostics are included; parts are billed at rates agreed in the contract. We flag aging components in reports so replacements are planned, not emergencies.

Is an AMC mandatory for SIRA or police-regulated premises?

Some regulated categories are expected to keep systems maintained and working at all times, and several require maintenance arrangements with approved providers. Practically: if your licence depends on working cameras, treat scheduled maintenance as part of compliance.

What response time do you commit to?

Contract-defined: same or next business day across Ajman and the Northern Emirates, scheduled priority slots for Dubai and Sharjah. Emergencies jump the queue.
